Clearly I’ve expropriated the Nike slogan “Just do it!” though the literary endeavour doesn’t approach the lofty qualification of an athletic undertaking. Perhaps as a mitigation of my want of application I’ve convinced myself that this shouldn’t be an effort, that I must instead dribble my way through it in the same manner that I pass any day, that is with conviction but without a lot of pain to get where I’m going.  So forgive me if it all rings somewhat hollow. Really I haven’t the inclination to make this a creation, just a minor exposition.

“My subject opens upon me, and in general improves upon a nearer prospect.”

Excerpt From: Gibbon, Edward. “Memoirs of My Life and Writings.”
